Professor Edemariam Tsega, grew up in Gondar, Ethiopia, and trained as a physician at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. In 1971 he returned to Addis Ababa to work. Professor Edemariam was instrumental in establishing the first Ethiopian post-graduate programme in Internal Medicine, which went on to train many of the current generation of physicians practicing there. He was Professor of Medicine, and subsequently Dean, of the Faculty of Medicine of Addis Ababa University. After his return to Canada in 1994, he practiced and taught Internal Medicine in central Newfoundland, and subsequently at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
